Buenos Aires with Kerri

Our first stop in South America was Buenos Aires. The guide books reckon that Argentina´s capital city is the Paris of South America...... Paris must have a lot of dog shit. We weren´t in “Paris” for long because we planned on catching up with Jake and Lou in southern Bolivia. We managed to catch up with Kerri Mackay for a couple of days – who was a great tour guide around some of the sights, including the graveyard for the rich and famous – like Evita Peron, and some pretty decent pastry shops (which copped a hammering). We are probably going to have to send a bit more time in Paris when we fly out next year. With the help of Kerri´s excellent español we managed to catch a ride on a bus from Paris up to Argentina´s northen border with Bolivia. The bus was awesome. There was about a much room as first class on an aeroplane. The landscape was totaly flat until we got to the mountains nearer the border and started climbing. There seemed to be a bit of cropping and quite a few mini-feedlots along the way. The journey was pretty sweet until we got to about a couple of hours from the border, when the bus gave up the ghost. We did, however, manage to catch a lift (i.e a hair-raising journey mostly at 140km per hour and often not on our side of the road) with some locals to the border town of Quiaca, and headed across the border to Tupiza the next day.
